New this year! The bike drawing will be held at the Lake House on Pepin in Lake City following the ride. Each rider will also recieve a free beer courtesy of Lake House on Pepin and slice of apple pie courtesy of Pepin Heights Orchards.
Course: Flexible, 3-18 miles
$30 per person
$100 for Team of 4
How long is the tour?
We have a flexible course, anywhere between 3-18 miles (or even more if you’re up for it!). The tour is at the Jewel Golf Course, with 6 miles of groomed trail over the golf cart paths. We also have about 3 miles of trail in some neighboring city property. We’re open from 10 am – 3 pm, ride as much or as little as you like!
Can we ride as a team?
Yes, you can ride as a team of four. Registration is $100 for the team. This way you save $$ on registration. All 4 riders ride at the same time, but can ride different distances if you like, or ride the same distance.
What's the minimum tire width?
A minimum tire width of 3.8″ is needed for the fat bike course.
Will I need to sign a waiver?
Yes, signing a waiver is part of our online registration. If you sign up on site the day of the event, you will need to sign an old-school paper waiver.
Will the course be groomed?
“The Jewel” Experience is packed and groomed, with several inches of base. There are a couple bare spots, some with ice; if you have studs, go ahead and install these studded tires before you ride! While you won’t need the studs for 95% of the course, there could be a couple icy spots where they could help you.
“The Sticks” is an optional Off-Road experience which has been packed with snowmobile, until most of the snow melted (it’s grass underneath). This section of the course is an optional detour; it is a fantastic terrain, but unfortunately doesn’t have the base the groomed carts paths at The Jewel have. Think open singletrack only 1/3 covered with a little snow.
How can I keep up with updates as event day approaches?
We will occasionally update this web page, but we will be offering more frequent updates on our Facebook page.
Why haven't I heard of this event before now?
This is our 3rd annual bike tour, and we’re just as FIRED UP as you are!
Is this a timed race?
No, it’s not a race. It’s a tour. But that doesn’t stop you from trying to get KOM on Strava, eh?!
Is this for beginners, or experts?
It’s good for both! We’ve designed the mileage to be good for beginners or experts. Come on out and have fun!
I don't have a fat bike, but I'm interested in trying it out. Will there be demo bikes?
We’re working hard to get demos and rentals, but they are few and far between. You will probably have more success checking with your local bike shop and securing your own rental for the event.
Will the Jewel clubhouse be open?
The clubhouse is typically closed during the winter, so the bar and restaurant will be closed during the Fired Up event. However, the front room will be open, as well as indoor bathrooms/changing rooms will be available.
Do I need a helmet? C'mon, it's winter and my hat doesn't fit underneath my helmet. I don't want to wear one.
Yes, you need to wear a helmet. Safety first 😉
Where should we stay overnight in Lake City?
Check out the following places to stay: http://public.lakecity.org/list/category/lodging-43
What is there to do in Lake City before/after the ride?
There are a lot of other events for Lake City’s Winterfest! Check them out on the Lake City Winterfest Facebook page.
Can I use studded tires?
Yes, studded tires in fat bike tires work great, and they typically don’t do damage. However you probably won’t need them, since the course is groomed snow, and the course is only open for this one event. If your bike is already set up with studded tires, bring ’em over! There might be a couple icy spots they would come in pretty handy.
